We acknowledge the donors who appear so genuinely eager to give back to this community. They consistently comment on the Island's priceless gifts to them—its natural beauty, friendliness, safety, and especially the precious family experiences. These valuables are locked in memories of walking beaches, sunning, hiking, finding gorgeous rocks and wild flowers, teasing each other, laughing, swimming, boating, fishing, playing games, building sand castles—and so many more. Some say they wish they had more to give, while others report that their gift is only a small part of what the Island has given them, especially in light of the increased land values. But whatever the motivation—the gifts and pledges of these donors help make the Island a still-better place for children, youth, and their families. A valued site and fondly remembered Island landmark is preserved—and like the old McCann store—the new Center welcomes Island visitors, entertains our youth and seniors, and brings families and friends together for celebrations and enjoyment of the performing arts.
